GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Consumers Energy employees, contractors and mutual assistance crews have been working around the clock to restore power to customer's affected by this week's damaging wind storm.
Approximately 60,000 Consumers Energy customers are without power as of 9 p.m., Friday March 10, across the state. This week's winds, in some areas reaching up to 60 mph, took down nearly 9,000 electric wires and broke more than 1,200 poles across Consumers Energy's service territory, which includes all 68 of the Lower Peninsula counties.
Consumers Energy released a press release stating that the vast majority of customers should have power restored by midnight Saturday. In some of the hardest areas, including portions of Barry, Calhoun, Ionia, Jackson, Kent and Lenawee counties restoration work will continue into Sunday.
The utility's outage map shows the number of customers still effected by outages out of all the customers in the county. Here are the numbers from some of the counties in our viewing area:

Reports of the abuse or neglect of children or vulnerable adults can be made by calling 1-855-444-3911.
Authorities urge the public to stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines, slow down when driving near crews working on roadsides, be mindful of were a generator is used and to maintain a constant drip on faucets to keep pipes from freezing during low temperatures.
If you do see a downed power line, call 911 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050 to report it.
