FT. LAUDERDALE, FLA. - A former west Michigan man who is now a college student in South Florida decided to stay in his condo instead of evacuate ahead of hurricane Matthew.
Zach Burke is a 2014 graduate of Caledonia High School. He now goes to college in Ft. Lauderdale. He stayed in his third floor condo and waited for the storm to arrive. Afterward he said it wasn’t as bad as he anticipated.
“It was less than what I expected,” he said during a Facetime interview. “A few wind gusts and a lot of rain. It is still raining pretty hard. I was just expecting a lot more than what it was.”
Burke says he thought he would be safe in his third floor condo and decided not to evacuate. He says he doesn’t think there was any damage or any injuries in his building.
