Possible tornado causes damage in Kent County

Possible tornado hits in Southeast Kent County

BOWNE TOWNSHIP, MICH. - An investigation is underway to determine whether a tornado caused damage in southeast Kent County.

National Weather Service meteorologists issued a tornado warning Monday, April 10, for the southeast portion -- plus a southwestern slice of Ionia County -- when apparent tornado debris was detected on radar.

Some damage has been reported near the Tyler Creek Golf Course in the Alto area. The roof of a barn was ripped off and thrown several feet near Wingeier Avenue and 92nd Street (M-50) SE.

Part of 92nd Street was closed as crews worked to clear fallen trees and debris.

A tornado was not yet to be observed in person, rather, radar technology was able to detect what appeared to be debris above the ground. Forecasters can be confident enough to issue warnings based on such data alone.
