Join the WZZM 13 On Target Weather team and pick up a NOAA Weather Radio!

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Don't -- you can't -- rely on a tornado siren to be woken up from a slumber during a severe weather situation.

WZZM 13 is On Your Side when it comes to West Michigan's most accurate weather forecast, and we're partnering with the Midland Radio company to ensure you won't miss a weather warning when its needed most.

Of course, you can download the WZZM 13 mobile app for breaking news and weather alerts, but don't expect it nor sirens to be loud enough to alert you to a warn warning -- especially at night. NOAA weather radios are specially designed to wake you up should a warning be issued for your area.

Join the WZZM 13 On Target Weather team to talk about West Michigan's severe weather season and purchase a weather radio of your own.

The team is hosting two events:

  • Thursday, April 13 from 4-7 p.m. -- Rockford Meijer at 2799 10 Mile Road NE
  • Wednesday, May 10 from 4-7 pm. -- Knapp's Corner Meijer at 1997 East Beltline Ave. NE

Radios range in price, features and are battery powered should the power be knocked out; some of which can charge your cell phone.

"Every household should have a NOAA Weather Radio," chief meteorologist George Lessens said. "It's like a smoke detector for weather."
