WEST MICHIGAN - Severe thunderstorms are possible along and ahead of a cool front in West Michigan starting late Thursday, July 6.
Warm, muggy and unstable air will continue to surge north into the region. A cool front will be the trigger for storms starting late in the day from north to south.
The main threat from these storms will be from very heavy rainfall and frequent lightning. Because of a tropical air mass in place, there is also the potential for localized flooding.
Some of the stronger storms could contain strong, damaging wind gusts and even large hail. The Storm Prediction Center has expanded the "enhanced risk" area to include parts of West Michigan.
Confidence is increasing in West Michigan's chances for severe storms late Thursday.
The severe thunderstorm threat will quickly end Friday morning from north to south as the storms depart. Humidity levels will tumble behind the cool front late in the day.
