Strong, possibly severe storms roll into West Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Strong to possibly severe thunderstorms are sweeping across parts of Lower Michigan, ushering in a threat of damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

A severe thunderstorm warning had been in effect until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, Kent County for the threat of 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail.

Reports of small hail were received in the Muskegon area earlier in the morning.

If not already raining in downtown Grand Rapids for the start of ArtPrize, storms are forecast to roll though around 9:30 a.m.

The line of thunderstorms are on a weakening trend overall, but frequent lightning, heavy rain and gusty winds can be expected into the noon hour.
