Weekend storms usher in change

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Saturday began with drenching downpours along the I-96 corridor and north, but the opportunity for more rain isn't over yet.

A strong system will send rounds of showers and storms through West Michigan.  Abundant moisture in the air make soaking rains very likely with passing thunderstorms, but the day won't be a washout.

Weather models still struggle with the fine details of the day. Now that the morning rains are through, look for scattered showers and storms into the early afternoon, then another round of storms later this evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has kept most of West Michigan in the 'slight' risk category for severe storms. Evening and overnight storms may be strong to severe. Uncertainty in the storms remains as certain atmospheric ingredients are lacking for strong storm support.

Showers and storms wind down into Sunday morning. Most of Sunday afternoon will be dry with breezy winds ushering in cooler, more comfortable air.
