After trying to throw rescue ropes to the man, deputies rowed a boat out to rescue him.

On Wednesday, March 7, Van Buren County Deputies were dispatched to the report of a prowler in Bloomingdale Township.

The caller reported a man looking in the windows of their home and trying to break into their car and garage around 10:15 p.m.

Shortly after, a call came in reporting a strange man was in a yard. When deputies arrived on scene they found the man approximately 100 yards off shore in the water, holding onto a sinking canoe yelling for help.

After trying to throw rescue ropes to the man, deputies rowed a boat out to rescue him. By the time they got in the water, the man was under water.

The Van Buren County Sheriffs Office Dive team was called to locate the man. Due to snow and freezing temperatures, the dive was suspended for the night and the man was not located.

The dive team said they will continue searching Thursday morning.

If you have any information, please call the sheriffs office at 269-657-2006.
