From the kitchen at a small restaurant in Hart to a production facility in Ludington: the La Fiesta Chip Company is on the fast track to statewide retail sales.
"Everything is hand-done," said Alyssa Vasquez, the company's logistics manager.
The process of making the tortilla chips hasn't changed since they started in 1987. Back then, they only were for customers of the La Fiesta Restaurant in Hart -- it's the store Vasquez' grandparents opened.
"They are super flaky and delicate, yet strong enough to hold a hardy dip," she said of the chips.
Vasquez started making the chips when she was 14 years old, using the restaurant's fryer and guidance from her grandmother. In 2013, Vasquez started bagging chips at the small restaurant so they could be sold at a few retail locations from Muskegon to Traverse City.
This new production facility in Ludington allows La Fiesta to sell its chips in bigger stores. There are 25 Meijer stores in West Michigan that now sell the product.
"We went from last year having a little less than 200 stores to this year jumped up to 300," Vasquez said.
Eleven employees produce 1,200 bags each day and certainly, they're proud of the company's growth so far.
