Road construction crews are preparing for a big road project planned for this summer. The reconstruction of 131 from ten mile road to 14 mile road in Kent County will actually start later this month.
Wednesday, March 7 MDOT held a meeting to answer questions about the project from drivers.
Something newer that will be used on this particular project is what some call a road zipper.
"We have an innovation on this project this year, something called a temporary moveable barrier. So you will see during this project an entire bound will be closed down at one time, and then on the other side we will maintain northbound and southbound traffic at the same time," said Tanya Pawlekiewicz, the Assistant Construction Engineer for MDOT.
"So in the morning during rush hour we will have two lanes of traffic going into Grand Rapids, then in the afternoon we will literally move the barrier over so we can have two lanes going northbound out of Grand Rapids," she added.
The project starts at the end of March is expected to run through October.
