GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — Julie joined 13 ON YOUR SIDE in June of 2023 as a weekend morning anchor and multi-skilled journalist. She’s a very proud graduate of the University of Missouri (Go Tigers! MIZ!), where she spent all four years working for KOMU 8 News, the local NBC affiliate in Columbia, MO. Julie learned to report and produce in her freshman year during the COVID-19 pandemic. Soon after, she started leading the weekend evening team as an anchor and executive producer in 2021. She also spent a summer interning for the Today Show in New York City.
Julie loves telling all kinds of stories – from long-form investigations to court reporting to community interest features. However, the stories she finds most fulfilling are the ones that take some digging. Much of her time in Missouri was spent investigating stories about state legislation that targeted trans athletes and LGBTQ+ book bans, one of which won a Hearst Award for TV News.
Growing up in a military family, Julie is used to moving around. Even though this is her first time in Michigan, she claims “the whole Midwest” as home, after spending a lot of her childhood in St. Louis and Cincinnati. She can’t wait to explore all West Michigan has to offer (especially the lakeshore)!
When she’s not at work, you can find her reading, drinking lots of coffee, forcing everyone she knows to listen to Taylor Swift, and of course, hanging out with her cat, Louie.
