A local executive is teaming up with a local chef to open an upscale soul food restaurant in the city.
Darel Ross, a director at Start Garden, and Lewis WIlliams, general manager of the LINC Up Soul Food Cafe, will be co-owners of Forty Acres Soul Food Kitchen.
The restaurant will be located at 1059 Wealthy St. SE and is expected to open in the fall.
Calling their brand “Authentically American” and rich in history, Ross and Williams say they are bringing a social responsibility component to this business opportunity.
“Lewis and I both have strong roots at LINC Up, and when we decided to run with this idea, it only seemed natural that we would give back to the organization,” said Ross in a press release. “So we’ll be giving back to the organization a percentage of the profits from Forty Acres.”
Williams added, “Forty Acres will be more than just the restaurant - it will be an unapologetic brand, and attitude, that represents the rich, oftentimes untold history of Black America, beginning with the significance of the name.
"We’re looking forward to sharing these stories - along with our Southern soul food dishes - with the Grand Rapids community.”
The restaurant will have a full bar service, vegetarian menu and take-out/catering options.
