GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- Have you ever been to the Dominican Republic and want to relive your experiences? Mi Casa Restaurante is as close as you can get to the actual Dominican Republic, and it's located right on Burton Street.

Between the authentic Dominican Republic food, music, atmosphere, and even laughter from the regulars, you'll be transported back to the tropical country immediately.

Owner Eduardo Medera decided to try out a restaurant after success with Burton Meat Farm, his family-owned Latino specialty food store. Mi Casa opened in April 2016 and was named 'my home' in Spanish to emphasize the welcoming nature of the restaurant. For those from Dominican Republic, it's a return to home.

"There are people that simply don't know that they can get authentic Dominican food in Grand Rapids, and now we have some," says Chris Freeman, owner of EatGR.com.

The restaurant specializes in dishes such as chivo guisado and sancocho.

Mi Casa Restaurante is located at 334 Burton Street SW.
