Fall Bridal Show opens in West Michigan this weekend

Fall Bridal Show offers fun and function for brides-to-be. The annual event takes place Friday and Saturday at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - West Michigan is calling all brides! Kohler Expos is set to kick off its annual Fall Bridal Show this weekend. Show manager Kaylee Glass describes the event as festive and fun.

"It is so happy because people are getting married. They are in love!" said Glass. "They're walking around. They have their bride squad and their favorite people with them."

The show, to be held at DeVos Place on Friday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 21, will feature over 100 exhibitors. They represent wedding industry professionals from all over West Michigan and will all be under one roof to help brides plan their trip down the aisle.

"I would say the quality of vendors we have sets us apart. We really offer the best in West Michigan and then we have the fashion shows. We have the tent display. We just have a lot of interactive stuff for brides to do," said Glass. "And, because there are so many, brides can ask all the questions they want. They get the face-to-face feel of those vendors and who is going to be helping them on their special day and that usually does alleviate stress. They can ask pricing. They can ask about anything they are wondering and compare because there are usually multiple DJs and photographers."

Elaine Page, owner of Caela Scott Bridal and Formal Wear in Holland, is one of those exhibitors. This year, her store will showcase the gowns for the event fashion show.

"We are kind of seeing people go away from strapless. A lot of brides want straps these days. The fun trend I just saw in Chicago on Sunday is there are a lot of laces," said Page. "There is a little bit more geometric patterns and not your Grandma's doily patterns. That has been a lot of fun. The colors they've come out with like the light gold and ivory rose gives it a bit more of a vintage and soft feel."

The fashion show will feature over 30 gowns, bridal and bridesmaid, ranging from classic to romantic - modern to glamorous. Page said she is excited about some of the new styles as well as colors.

"Whatever you have planned for your wedding will be at the show," she said. "There are a ton of caterers, ton of florists, formal wear and tuxedos. We try to help brides think through their day. What is the setting? Where is your event going to be held? Are you doing a church wedding? Are you going to be outdoors?

"So, that really kind of helps us help them because we have relationships with a lot of these vendors. So, we can suggest people or ideas because we have seen a ton of stuff."

Guests can buy tickets at the door or online at KohlerExpo.com. The event will take place Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online.

"They can also pre-register online - or at the door - for those door prizes," said Glass. "There are over $5,000 in door prizes and they are given out at the fashion shows. You do have to be present to win, so once we call your name, you walk away with a prize."

The runway fashion show times are Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
