Festival of the Arts announces new additions, food booths and the performance lineup

Organizers and volunteers are working hard to prepare for the 49th annual Festival of the Arts happening June 1, 2 and 3.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The 49th annual Festival of the Arts is just over a week away and on Wednesday, May 23, organizers announced some exciting new changes.

For the first time ever, the festival will house a new comic book art exhibit at Rosa Parks Circle. The event gives festival goers access to several artists on June 1 and 2 from 5 until 9 p.m.

Organizers also announced new menu items for 2018, including booths selling root beer floats, spicy Korean nachos, extra-large pickles and grilled cinnamon and lemon pineapple skewers. The tried and true favorites like elephant ears, turkey legs, polish sausage, pierogis and souvlaki will make a comeback this year.

The Regional Arts Exhibition which includes the Sixth Street Bridge photo competition finalists will be on display at the Fed Galleries at Kendall College of Art and Design this year, and will be open for the public to tour, free of charge, during Festival hours.

The Festival of the Arts has dozens of performances and demonstrations all weekend long -- check out the full list here.
