What's Up This Weekend: Old Fashioned Days, farmers markets and more

It's Tuesday, which means we're looking forward to kid-friendly weekend events and activities.

It's Tuesday, which means 13 ON YOUR SIDE is looking forward to the weekend with the help of Grand Rapids Kids. There is so much happening across West Michigan, there are tons of opportunities to make memories together.

The Old Fashioned Days in Fruitport kicks off on Wednesday and runs all the way through Memorial Day. It's an annual favorite that takes place at Pomona Park and has something for the whole family including a carnival, community picnic, a parade, a 5K run and so much more. There is even a community marketplace and garage sale.

The Outdoor Discovery Center in Holland is showing off 11 different species of owls. The event begins at 11 a.m. Saturday. You'll get an up close look at these incredible creatures who call the Outdoor Discovery Center home after being rescued. Cost is $4 per person, it's free for members.

Spring is finally here and that means local Farmers Markets are now in full swing. Studies show kids are more likely to eat healthy foods if they take part in choosing them. There will be a host of fresh fruits and veggies at both the Holland Farmers Market and the Rockford Farmers Market as well. Holland's goes from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Rockford's goes from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

It will only happen if the skies are clear. Cost is $3 for adults, $2 dollars for kids 17 and under, those under 5 are free.
