What's Up This Weekend: Winter Beer Festival, and other frigid fun for the whole family

Don't let frigid February keep you inside -- there's plenty of fun for everyone.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. —

Every Wednesday, we have a rundown of weekend events with the help of Grand Rapids Kids.

Celebrate the Grand Rapids beer industry at the Winter Beer Festival on Saturday. It’s happening from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Fifth Third Ballpark. There will be 133 Michigan breweries and brewpubs, and nearly 850 beers.

Tickets are $55, and come with 15 tasting tokens which are redeemable for 3 ounce samples. The festival also includes local bands, ice sculpture demonstrations and food.

Here are some family friendly events from Grand Rapids Kids:

This weekend some local rinks are participating in USA Hockey's Try Hockey For Free Day. On Saturday, kids can head to Walker Ice and Fitness Center or Patterson Ice Center. From noon to 1 p.m. kids of any experience level will have access to skates and other equipment, and will receive a free jersey. Just be sure to bring a helmet!

The music from a fan favorite is coming to life this weekend. See Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in concert at DeVos Performance Hall. The Grand Rapids Symphony has a show on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase here

Grand Haven’s Main Street is transforming for Frozen in Time. On Saturday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. businesses will have live mannequins on display. This year, they’ll act out scenes from nursery rhymes. People who correctly match all the scenes can enter a drawing for cash and prizes. This event is free for the whole family.
