LANSING, Mich. — LANSING -- Former President Barack Obama released Friday a list of his favorite books, movies and music he's discovered in 2018.

The list includes work from a band that got its start in the Lansing area.

Obama listed Lord Huron's "Wait by the River" as one of his 22 favorite songs this year.

Lord Huron is an indie folk band with four members that all have ties to the region.

The band is comprised of Okemos High School graduates Ben Schneider (lead vocals), Mark Barry (percussion, vocals) and Tom Renaud (guitar, vocals) as well as Eaton Rapids graduate Miguel Briseño (bass, percussion).

Lord Huron is based in Los Angeles and has released three full-length albums since 2012. The latest album, "Vide Noir," was released on April 20.

Schneider is the son of John Schneider, a State Journal columnist for 35 years.

John Schneider said he doesn't know how Obama discovered Lord Huron's music. He suspects Obama may have seen the band perform "Wait by the River" on NBC's "Late Night With Seth Meyers" in May.

“It can’t possibly hurt," the elder Schneider said of Obama's fondness for the band. "Maybe people will see that list and think 'Maybe it's worth checking out some of those songs.'"

Lord Huron's name was inspired by Lake Huron, which Ben Schneider grew up visiting, according to the band's Wikipedia.com page.
