Grant Me Hope: Melody

Meet 12-Year-Old Melody, this week's Grant Me Hope child.

Melody is in harmony with others. “She is extremely generous and always thinking of ways to share what she has with others,” Melody’s worker says. Her foster mom agrees. “Melody has a caring and generous heart,” says her foster mom. “She loves to do things for others.” As much as she likes doing things for others, Melody cares for herself as well by staying active. She enjoys coloring, drawing and playing video games. “Melody is interested in playing soccer and lacrosse,” says her worker. She loves playing with her friends on weekends, and she longs to visit her cousin’s house so they can make slime. When she gets older, Melody wants to become a model. She wishes for unlimited wishes and “all the money in the world!” When she’s asked about the qualities she wants in a future forever family, Melody says, “I want to live with rich people with my own room and my own pony.” “Melody wants a home with pets and parents who will take care of her,” says her worker.

Due to the trauma she experienced, Melody receives services to help her develop coping skills to manage her feelings. Overall, her worker calls Melody a “caring, funny and generous” girl. “She cares about her friends, and she often looks for ways to share with them.” In school, Melody receives assistance to help her function at her best. She reports that art and music are her favorite subjects.

A forever family for Melody must be willing to adopt her older sister Jasmyn. The girls would do best with a patient mom and dad who are experienced and have knowledge of the impact of trauma on a child. Jasmyn and Melody would do best in a structured home with clear expectations. They would benefit from seeing examples of healthy parental relationships. Finally, their new forever family must be strong advocates for the services that will help Jasmyn and Melody function at their best.
