Grant Me Hope: Shantoria

Meet this week's Grant Me Hope child, 14-Year-Old Shantoria.

Shantoria, who also likes to be called Shanti or Princess, is a friendly and funny girl. She considers herself a “girly girl” and likes to wear dresses. Shantoria’s favorite things to do include going to the beach and shopping. She also likes to color and enjoys reading, particularly the “Dragonball Z” books. In addition, Shanti likes wearing princess dresses. Her talent is singing and dancing, and she wants to be a singer when she grows up. Shantoria is caring towards others and loves to help. She truly likes to make others happy by telling jokes or simply listening. One of her workers describes her personality as very fun, loving, caring and compassionate.
Shantoria has had a traumatic past and is learning effective ways to cope with this. According to Shantoria’s worker, her behaviors have improved greatly, especially in school, but she still struggles at times. She listens and does her school work and receives good grades. Shantoria does best when she has a consistent routine and knows when things are going to change ahead of time.

Shantoria would do best with a single mom who has a strong support network or a mom and dad. She would do best at the only or youngest child in her new forever family, but a family with other school aged children will be considered. Her new parent or parents must be fierce advocates for the services that will help Shantoria thrive. They also must be knowledgeable of the impact of trauma on a child.
