The Idlewild weekend event takes place on Saturday, July 22, starting at 11 a.m. and will include a full day of entertainment and education through live musical performances and tributes to performers of Idlewild’s historical music legacy.

The artistic lineup includes vocals, dance and a theatrical segment which will utilize performances as a catalyst to help educate and engage youth and adults in the rich history and impact of music on the culture of Idlewild.

Special guest presenters throughout the day will discuss the development and acquisition of Idlewild as a summer resort for African Americans and the historic impact of Idlewild, Michigan with inter-generational sharing of history/life experiences to encourage empowerment.

This weekend event is designed to bring forth a greater awareness, appreciation and changing perception of Idlewild as a community, with a focus on the values of Idlewild’s culture, past and present.
