Macramayhem brings fresh modern vibe to macrame designs

Grand Rapids based artist Claire Ashcraft became inspired to start her business Macramayhem after seeing the trend of macrame re-emerge.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids based artist Claire Ashcraft became inspired to start her business Macramayhem after seeing the trend of macrame re-emerge, but in the same way it used to be.

She wanted to take macramé from the 70’s and elevate it to a modern look and design. Macramé can be a piece of fine art that compliments and looks elegant in any room. Ashcraft originally started with plant hangers, and has grown into making wall hangings, home goods, jewelry, and more.

A huge goal of Macramayhem is to give a chance for people to work with their hands and try making macramé.

"Macramé can be a million different things, and I'd like to try them all," said Ashcraft. "At Macramayhem you'll find macramé with cleaner lines, funky hoops, vibrant colors, chunky cord, and anything else crazy that I haven't come up with yet."

It’s therapeutic and fun for anyone to try, which is why Ashcraft teaches macramé classes. She holds her own classes but can come to you and have a macramé class for anyone anywhere. Macramayhem products are available on her website www.shopmacramayhem.com, at Dime and Regal, Modrn GR, and Love’s Ice Cream in the downtown market.
