Avoid these mistakes at the pharmacy

Pharmacies becoming more susceptible to prescription mistakes because of overworked pharmacists

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — When you get your prescription do you even think about whether or not it's the correct dosage or even the right one?

Mistakes at the pharmacy more often than you think.

13 is ON YOUR SIDE with tips on how to make sure you're getting the prescription you paid for. Pharmacist Mike Koelzer from The Business of Pharmacy Podcast talks with us about how to spot mistakes at the pharmacy.

Here are a few of his tips:

  1. Make sure the drug name and strength that is on your bottle matches your discharge or patient notes from the doctor.
  2. After getting your prescription, go online and be sure that that drug name is a drug used for you condition. Some might have unlabeled uses but not many.
  3. Then be sure there is a tablet description on the label to compare to your actual tablet. If not, look up the drug imprint online and confirm.
  4. Confirm the typical dose online. Be sure your dose is in range with that dose.
