Super Bowl Snacks: Nutter Butter Referees

Here's a cute way to jazz up some of the sweet snacks at your Super Bowl party this weekend.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The 54th Super Bowl is this Sunday, Feb. 2 and to celebrate the occasion, the My West Michigan team decided to make a Super Bowl recipe or craft each day.

If you're not big on the football game during the Super Bowl, then today's Super Bowl snack will be perfect for you!

Jazz up your sweet Super Bowl snacks with fun, football-themed looks like these Nutter Butter Referees.

They're super easy to do, all you need is a box of Nutter Butters and black and white icing. If you need to make black food coloring for the icing, this Southern Living blog post may be able to help. You can also purchase edible candy eyes, or just ice the eyes on yourself.

These treats are so easy to make, that even the kids can get involved!

Here's a set of ingredients and instructions from The Girl Who Ate Everything blog. This version of the snack was created for March Madness, but any sporting event could call for Nutter Butter Refs!

March Madness is in still going strong. And I'm still more into the food than the games. Sorry. Not sorry. When Nabisco asked me to work with them on a upcoming project with different recipes for the big game, I jumped on the opportunity. I love Nutter Butters.

INGREDIENTS

  • 20 Nutter Butter cookies
  • 4 ounces vanilla candy coating (found at Walmart or craft stores)
  • black frosting
  • edible candy eyes

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Melt vanilla candy coating according to package instructions.

  2. Dip the lower half of each Nutter Butter cookie in the coating and place on wax paper to set.

  3. Once the coating has set, draw 4 black vertical lines down the vanilla candy coating. You can use a Wilton #46 tip or you can use a re-sealable plastic bag with the corner cut off.

  4. Adhere the candy eyes with frosting and draw a mouth and hair on each of the referees using a Wilton #2 or a re-sealable plastic bag filled with frosting with the corner cut off.

The 54th Super Bowl is Sunday, Feb. 2 starting at 6:30 p.m. The San Francisco 49ers will face the Kansas City Chiefs.
