Paint Selection: Getting it Right the First Time

Leslie Hart-Davidson from HDD Studios shows you what to consider when choosing paint for your home.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Before you choose a paint color for your walls at home, ask yourself these two important questions:

  1. What do you need to DO in this space?
  2. What would you like to FEEL in this space?

Leslie Hart-Davidson from HDD Studios joined My West Michigan virtually to help you consider all the factors when choosing the perfect paint for your home.

The answers to the DO question will reveal how dark or saturated you can go with the paint color.  The more functional the tasks in a space, the brighter the color should be.

The answers to the FEEL question will reveal whether you should choose a warm or a cool color palette.  If the adjectives you desire for a space are cozy and comfy, a warm color (red/orange/yellow) will be perfect.  If your adjectives are more like open and fresh, a cool color (blue/green/violet) will work great.

You'll also want to test drive your color for 24 hours to ensure that under all lighting conditions--morning, noon and night--you still love your color.
