The second annual Battle of the Gains event is taking place at the John Ball Zoo on June 24 -- this year's theme is "Unleash Your Inner Animal."

The event starts at 9:00 a.m. and goes until 3:00 p.m. and will include a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, 7-on-7 flag football tournaments, a zoo scavenger hunt, a community expo, food, and music. There will also be an award ceremony at the end of the day with a message from a special guest.

The Battle of the Gains is free for the community. People are encourage to check out the expo, watch the game and participate if they can. Tickets for the scavenger hunt are $10 a person and include free entrance to the Zoo. Participants in the sports tournaments will pay $30 a person, and it includes a shirt, and admission to the scavenger hunt.

The Battle of the Gains movement was launched in 2016 meant to inspire young people to overcome and to make gains in their physical, mental, spiritual, financial and social lives. The idea is to have a mindset that will help people achieve in the face of obstacles and to live their lives more optimistically.

There is a group of businesses called the "Gains Group" that are committed to giving back to the community. Their mission is to change people, the community and the world for the better.
