A Grand Rapids man is racing in the world's largest gravel road bike race on a power scooter. Jeff Jacobi is also raising money and awareness for Gilda's Club during the race.
The Founders Barry-Roubaix Killer Gravel Road Race is in Hastings is on April 16. It is a 22-mile ride.
Jacobi says the idea to ride a scooter instead of a bike, started as a bet with friends. His goal is to raise $5,000 for Gilda's Club.
Jacobi competes in multiple bike races every year, and plans on finishing somewhere in the middle of the 3,500 participants. He expects the race to take up to 3 hours.
“I’m taking this seriously and training for this race,” Jacobi said. “I will finish even if I have to carry the scooter across the finish line.”
