Surviving Valentine's Day if you're single

An expert gives advice for singles.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Relationship expert Remi Schloff offered up some advice for people on Valentine's Day who may not be feeling the love.

A.) People need to remember: if you’ve “clicked with someone once- you’ll be able to do it again." It’s the people who have NEVER clicked with anyone, who truly need to do some soul searching and listen to their concerns about their sociability.

B.) Try to refocus your thoughts on the people who ARE in your life, rather than the relationship you hope for “one day.” Do something nice for those people who are there for you, who have made a difference in your life, and in that sense, practice gratitude this Valentine’s Day for the love you have received and that lingers on in your heart.

C.). Don’t let others shame you, or take away your dignity because you’re single. Think in advance about a sentence you can say when or if someone mentions feeling sorry for you or worry for you about being single. “Thanks for your concern but I’m doing great and finding things to enjoy about right where I am in life.”

Here are some more practical suggestions for things people can do on Valentine’s Day itself:

1.) Have a party with all your singles friends, or plan a getaway with your best single buds!

2.) Throw your phone in a safe and don’t get on it. Steer clear of social media. You don’t want to Facebook-stalk all your ex’s! That kind of ruminating will make you feel happy or confident.

3.). Schedule some self care. Get a massage, go for a hike, go to the gym and enjoy the hot tub. You must retrain your brain to see this as an opportunity to be accountable to no one but YOU!
