Shanna and Laura share their initial thoughts on training for a triathlon.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Triathlon is a brutal fitness test -- swimming, biking and running, in that order.

Shanna Grove and Laura Hartman are taking on the challenge in June with the help of fitness instructor Kari Stuart.

Here are Laura's initial thoughts about taking on the triathlon:

"Over the past few years, I've gotten into running. I've run the 10k race in the Fifth Third River Bank Run twice and enjoyed it both times. In 2018 I attempted to train for a half marathon but injuries took me out before competing. I thought a triathlon would be a better option since the running portion is a 5k distance. I feel good about the bike portion too - that's 12 miles. But I'm very nervous about swimming. The last time I swam in a pool (outside of lounging in the summer) was possibly high school! The swimming will be tough, but I'm getting into the pool before the real training begins to get comfortable. Wish me luck!"
