A holiday display with a purpose

A Comstock Park man would never take donations to pay for the electricity or materials he uses in his big holiday light display. But this year, he is accepting money to support the West Michigan Autism Network.

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — This holiday season there is an especially big and bright display of Christmas lights on Dana Street in Comstock Park. Santa is even outside waving, offering candy canes and accepting donations.

In the past Mike Mcardle would never take money to cover the electricity or materials used in his display. But people still wanted to give. So, after thinking it over, this year for the first time he is accepting donations and giving the money to the West Michigan Autism Network. His nephew, Mason, has autism.

“If I can do something to help this young man and maybe other children like him then, yea, I’m going to be out here and I’m going to do this,” says Mcardle.

“I live in the neighborhood and he is out here every night,” says Scott Ciucci. "I support him.”

The holiday lights on Dana Street are on every night until Jan. 1. On New Year’s Eve he even has a lighted ball that drops at midnight to ring in the new year.

"We live up the road and the kids ask to come here every night after dinner," says neighbor Allison Andree. "We donated and are thankful he is doing this and trying to help somebody else."
