One Good Thing: Hope College students working on world water problems

They're testing water filters in 25 different countries and helping hundreds of thousands gain access to clean water.

HOLLAND, Mich. — Some Hope College students helped out during a recent crises.  And they're working on how to solve a world-wide problem.

They partnered with a few different organizations to provide clean water to people in Fiji, which has been hit by three hurricanes in three years.  The non-profits provide water filters.  The students study the effects of those filters on conditions, like diarrhea.  In addition to Fiji, the Hope students are studying filter effectiveness in 24 other countries around the globe.  There's a lot more to what they're doing - and I wish I had time to tell you all of it.  But the bottom line is this:

Roughly half of the Fijian population - 500,000 - are struggling with clean water.  These Hope College students are a part of the reason their getting help.  They get today's One Good Thing.

If you have a One Good Thing you'd like to submit - someone or something that makes West Michigan a good place to live - email me with your photos and-or video at OneGoodThing@13OnYourSide.com.
