Multiple brands of rawhide dog chew products have been recalled for possible chemical contamination.

United Pet Group, a division of Spectrum Brands, Inc. is voluntarily recalling Healthy Hide, American Beefhide and Disgest-eeze brand rawhide dog chew products -- which were distributed in retail stores and sold online nationwide.

The recall was announced after certain rawhide chew manufacturing facilities located in Mexico, Colombia and one of the suppliers in Brazil, were reported using a anti-microbial chemical in the production process. The FDA says the chemical is approved for cleaning food processing equipment, but not for producing rawhide chews for dogs.
