On Friday night, the Humane Society of West Michigan hosted a different kind of singles night.

Their Singles Night Out event paired humans with animals. It was hosted like a speed dating event for people to meet their future pets.

The animal shelter highlighted four of their pets, two dogs and two cats, on Facebook that people could meet: Bean, Spice, Star and Anna Grace.

The event was held for some of the longest term residents at the shelter.

"We're looking for those people that are ready to take on these dogs and commit themselves to them," said Tanelle McFadyen from the Humane Society.

The event gave people the opportunity to meet all the animals and spend time with them before deciding to adopt. Additionally, for those four pets, the adoption fees were waived.

"We're hoping these animals go home and stay home," said McFadyen. "It's time for them to have their own home for the New Year."
