Have you heard it? The sounds of the season: sniffling, coughing and sneezing.

Cold season is here and now you can track where those colds are popping up by downloading the Sickweather App.

Here's how it works. The app scans social networks and third party data sources like medication sales from drug stores. The app claims it can predict with a 91 percent accuracy the rate of illnesses in your area.

Now as for the flu season, ours is just starting here in West Michigan. It typically peaks end of January through the beginning of March. So, it is not too late to get your flu shot.

And you may have heard there’s some controversy around the vaccine this year.

It's kind of true. There are 4 strains of flu that this year’s vaccine protects you against. The CDC says flu shot is 60% effective for three of those strains which is pretty good.

However, there are reports that it's been found to be only 10 percent effective against the H3N2 strain, otherwise known as swine flu, which hits those under the age of 60 pretty hard.

That's why health officials are concerned it's going to be a tough flu season. Remember some protection against the flu is better than none. And it's not too late to get that flu shot.
