Strike a pose! That selfie you're taking could be an addiction

Love to snap and post selfies all day? Then you might have a condition called "selfitis."

It's National Selfie Day! Have you snapped one today? More than one? Then you might have a condition called "selfitis."

The condition was developed by researchers out of England and they came up with the Selfitis Behavior Scale.

There are three levels:

  1. Borderline Selfitis - taking at least 3 selfies a day without posting them on social media
  2. Acute Selfitis - taking and posting at least 3 selfies a day
  3. Chronic Selfitis - Unable to resist the urge to take selfies around the clock and post at least six a day

This probably comes as no surprise, but those with chronic selfitis had lower self-confidence scores and higher attention seeking and social competition scores.

Research says we like to post selfies because of the need for positive attention.

Chronic selfitis can also be narcissistic and those who over-post don't usually like or comment on other people's selfies.

The studies on selfies and social media all seem to have one thing in common: selfies in moderation are normal, being obsessed with them is cause for concern.

Happy Selfie Day!
