While many people think developing a drug or alcohol problem later in life is unusual, it is actually a growing problem.

The causes for the issue among seniors are complex and there isn't an easy solution. The best thing to do is educate yourself about the way issues can develop, and how to identify signs of dependence and addiction in older loved ones.

The Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan is offering a class on the topic Thursday, July 27, also teaching participants how to go about getting help for their loved ones if they develop a dependency.

You can register for the Family Caregiver University class by emailing regisration@aaawm.org or calling 616-222-7032. You can also visit their website by following this link.
