Grand Haven nursery closing, laying off 300 workers

Garden's Alive! Farms announced that it will be closing on Aug. 3.

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. - Hundreds of workers are on notice at Garden’s Alive! Farms after the company announced its closing its largest farm near the lakeshore.

The layoff notice will affect 300 full-time and seasonal positions.

Garden's Alive! Farms is formerly known as the Berry Family Nurseries. The Indiana-based company notified the Michigan Talent Investment Agency that it's closing its largest farm, located on Winans Street in Grand Haven Township.

With over 1,700 acres of land, the company specialized in shrubs, trees and plants. The company listed its reason for closing as "due to current and expected future losses.”

No one responded to 13 ON YOUR SIDE’s request for comment at the company's headquarters in Indiana.

The state notice says the Grand Haven Township facility will permanently close Aug. 3.
