GRBJ: 4 West Michigan companies rate as 'Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality'

Four West Michigan companies have earned “perfect” scores for LGBTQ equality and inclusion in the workplace.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRBJ) - The Human Rights Campaign, or HRC, published its 2019 "Corporate Equality Index," or CEI, last week, and a group of companies from the region met all the criteria and earned designations as “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality.”

They include Zeeland-based Herman Miller, Battle Creek-based Kellogg Company, Kalamazoo-based Stryker and Benton Harbor-based Whirlpool Corporation.

The index includes 571 companies with perfect 100-point scores.

Other West Michigan companies in the ranking include Grand Rapids-based Steelcase, with a score of 90, Walker-based Meijer, 90, and Byron Center-based SpartanNash, 80.

“The top-scoring companies on this year’s CEI are not only establishing policies that affirm and include employees here in the United States, they are applying these policies to their global operations and impacting millions of people beyond our shores,” says Chad Griffin, president, HRC, in a web post about the index.

“Time and again, leading American businesses have shown that protecting their employees and customers from discrimination isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s also good for business.”
