ADA, Mich. — Kingma's Market announced on Monday that their Ada location will be closing.

The Ada store was the second Kingma's Market to open. The first and primary store is on Plainfield Avenue in Grand Rapids. The Ada store will be closing so that Kingma's can focus on developing and building the original Plainfield market.

The location in downtown Ada opened nearly 18 months ago

A release said that the Ada store will start the closing process immediately with special prices on inventory. The store will ultimately close its doors at the end of January.

The Ada store is 40 percent bigger than the first location.

“Although we believe that Kingma’s Market is still scalable for other neighborhoods, we learned that our niche in today’s dynamic retail environment is to serve customers in a smaller, more dense and walkable area, in a scaled-down site, more like our original market,” said Alan Hartline, the owner of Kingma's.

The Plainfield location will have more options soon including an expanded deli, bakery and seafood offerings.

Fish Lads and Rowsters Coffee, which are currently operating in the Ada Kingma's Market, will relocate back to their original sites in Grand Rapids.
