Michigan Memorial Day weather great for business

This Memorial Day weekend was marked with beautiful weather.

Michigan was one of the nicest places to be this holiday weekend. That meant good sales for retailers and more outdoor fun for vacationers.

At the Grand Rapids area restaurant, The Score, people enjoyed the music and palm trees.

"We come here because it’s our favorite place. It’s a little bit of Florida and Michigan", says Doug Theule. It's a far cry from what the rest of the country was seeing. Residents and vacationers in Florida dealt with subtropical storm Alberto.

Meantime, in Maryland, there was major flooding. Tourist destinations in both states took a hit on what they hoped would be a big holiday weekend.

Back here at home, vacationers took advantage of the nice weather. Grand Haven State Park was busy and the cold lake temperatures didn't stop several people from jumping off the pier. Boaters were also out in full force. Memorial Day marks the start of the boating season.

For homeowners, it was a good time to get some work done. Home Depot was crowded with people buying seasonal items like grills and garden supplies.

"We were off work today. So, we’re getting some yard work done. Just putting some mulch down", says Jessica Karis.

For Michiganders, it was deserved. After enduring longer than normal winter weather, the sunshine was, not doubt, a welcome sight. “I think we’re pretty lucky to have this nice weather. It’s great.”
