Do the "Spiral Curls" work? We Try It Before You Buy It!

We Try out the "Spiral Curls" to find out if they are better than a traditional curling iron.

Are you looking to put some curl in your hair?

This week we are testing out “Spiral Curls," a heatless way to curl your hair.

Will they stand up or fall flat? There is only one way to know.

Let’s Try It Before You Buy It!

The spiral curls come in a bag and include two hooks to help pull the hair through, and there are two styles—the spiral and the wave.

We got the hair ready by lightly damping it with a spray bottle. Then we attempted to get the hair through the spiral curl, and no luck. We looked at the instructions and even looked at a few videos on YouTube, and we couldn’t get it to work. We kept getting the hair stuck. It felt like we were pulling the hair at the root and not through the curler. After about a half-hour of this torturous scenario, we got another person to help.

Then magic happened. He had no real issue and seemed to correct our mistake in feeding the hair through. We learned it’s all in the way the curler is pinched at the opening.

After finishing up, we hit the hair with a hairdryer to dry the hair and hopefully set it up, but sadly after pulling the curlers out, the hair fell flat. There was still a hint of a wave, but that too disappeared quickly.

We then decided to put four more in and let them naturally dry for a few hours. After removing them, they kept their shape for a few minutes, but then, like before, they lost their curl.

So far, they were not working

We then gave it one last go, and our awesome tester, Riley, took the curlers home. She washed her hair and dried it out to 90 percent as directed and then put some product in her hair and left them in overnight.

The following day, we took them out, and it worked, and her hair looked great! There was one gap in the back where she couldn’t see that was a bit off. But how did it hold up?

We checked back with her six hours later, and the hair started to fall flat again. Even with leaving them in overnight and putting some product in the hair, it just didn’t hold. Quite disappointing for the forty-five minutes she spent putting them in.

So, the results.

We’ll start with the positives:

  • When we got them in, they did shape the hair for a short time.
  • And despite ripping out some hair there was no heat damage to it.

And the negatives.

  • These things are challenging to get on the hair. It took us multiple tries and people to get it on right.
  • Then both ways we tried; the hair just fell flat after a few hours.
  • These are not worth the time it takes to get them in the hair

So, since these didn’t work out for us in the three different ways we tried them out, we will rate this as AVOID IT.
