Try It Before You Buy It: 3 in 1 Caulk tool

We try out a 3 in 1 caulk tool: Does it give you smoother finish with clean lines, is it a more convenient way to scrape and remove old caulk. We Try It!

If you have trouble getting clean caulk lines, then this 3 in 1 tool might be for you

We picked this one up online and you can find many variants of it for under twenty dollars. This the comes with the scraper, cleaning blade and the trowel with adjustable pads. At first glance it looks well-made and easy to use … but is it

Let's Try It Before You Buy It!

First on the list was running some caulk along the base boards

We tried the old trusty finger method, and got the typical goop and smudge results. So we tried a section further down with the tool, we selected a pad that seemed to fit our desired corner, and it spread pretty nice and quick. It also accumulated the excess caulk on the under side. This created some lines from the excess caulk to run out the sides, but it was simple to remove with a second pass.

So far this 3 in 1 is doing a better job than our finger

Before the next test we tested out how easy it was to clean, and it cleaned up fast under a little hot water.

Now to a bathroom vanity back splash, we tried out the scraper and cleaning blade, they both removed a fair amount of the existing caulk, but the cleaning blade was not as good a razor blade for getting all of the small pieces. Also, the black plastic discolored parts of the wall when we applied heavy pressure

After the removal of the old dirty caulk, we laid a fresh bead down and selected a pad we thought would work for the edge.

But the first one we selected was too round and did not produce a clean edge. We also discovered the tools bulkiness made it hard to maneuver around the faucet and the wall. After a few passes and a little more caulk in some of the low spots it turned out good

So would we recommend a 3 in 1 tool for you caulking?

The positive would be:

  • Easy to use
  • Pleasing result
  • Fast cleanup

And then the negative:

  • A bit bulky
  • Some spaces are a tight fit.

So we would rate this product as a Buy It!
