Try It Before You Buy It: Eufy Dual Camera Doorbell

Is a doorbell with dual cameras and package detection worth your money? We test it out.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Tired of getting up when someone knocks on the door? Looking to see who stole your packages?

The Eufy Dual Camera Doorbell looks to help you achieve those goals, but does it work?

We try it!

The dual camera doorbell feels well-made and comes with installation parts such as different mounting options and the home base. The home base is the brains of the doorbell and provides the audible chime and internet connection.

Pairing the home base with the home network was easy, and we were up and running pretty fast since we already had the Eufy app installed for another product.

We put the doorbell into the mount and were ready to try it out. You can set up the zones for detection and faces. You have many items that you can customize.

We choose the battery install version, so every once in a while, you need to take the doorbell off and charge it with the home base. In the three months we have owned this, we have had to recharge it three times, so a little bit of a hassle. Remember, don't lose the little key that helps remove it from the base, or you'll be left with a dead doorbell.

First up, how does it work as a doorbell? Our guest pushed the button, and it worked. Ding! Ding! Ding!

Next, we wanted to see how it did with package detection, and again this worked and even left a notification on the app that a package had arrived. When you open it up you can clearly see the porch and the person who left it. Luckily, we didn't see anyone take it.

And at night, its IR light helped illuminate the porch so you could see who was there, including our neighborhood deer that likes to eat pumpkins off our porch.

We were impressed with the camera's quality and the ability to see packages on the ground. One odd thing is the actual doorbell button can be easily missed, since it blends in with the black design. One big plus is the video storage is free, so you are only left paying the hefty price tag of around $249 for the doorbell and home unit.

So the results:

The positives:

  • Nice camera with night vision
  • Package notifications
  • Free storage

The negatives:

  • Poor battery life
  • Hard to see the doorbell button

Overall we liked the Eufy video doorbell. It's very convenient, and the image quality is excellent. So we rate this as a "Buy it!"
