Try It Before You Buy It: Shoe SlotZ

Can the Shoe SlotZ reduce the space your shoes take up on a shelf? We test it out!

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Are shoes taking over your house? Need a good place to store them?

The “Shoe SlotZ” space-saving storage units promise to double your storage space when it comes to storing your shoes. But does it?

Let's try it!

The Shoe SlotZ is made out of plastic. They are lightweight and seem durable, and easy to clean.

We first noticed that these require tall shelves, so if you have low-profile shoe storage shelves, these won’t work.

We had about seven pairs of various styles and sized shoes on our shelf. One by one, we put them in the Shoe SlotZ. We only needed to add a little plastic clip to keep the shoes from falling off the Shoe SlotZ. Once we finished converting the shoes to the Shoe SlotZ, we found they worked and saved us space on the shelf. This quickly gives you more freedom on the frame.

We tried seeing where else these would work. They wouldn’t fit in our shoe rack. You could put them on top if needed. And they look out of place by the front door. The Shoe Slotz worked, but in limited areas. We did find the white plastic clip that holds the shoe in place will fall out easily. Plus, this white plastic look might not appeal to some.

Now the results:

The positives

  • They did reduce space for storing shoes
  • Vented fronts, reduce moisture getting trapped

The negatives:

  • Limited places they will work, you need tall shelves
  • The plastic piece to keep shoes from sliding off can fall out easily

This product meets its space-saving claims, but since you’re limited to taller than average shelves for shoes, we rate this as a "Consider It."
