HOLLAND, Mich. — There is an increase in customers using counterfeit bills at retails stores in Holland Township, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
One incident happened Thursday at the Hobby Lobby on Felch Street in Holland Township. A man made a small purchase using a counterfeit $100 bill and left with a "sizable" amount of fraudulently obtained monies, said the sheriff's office in their press release.

They say store clerks most commonly find fake $100 bills in their cash registers at the end of their shifts.
The sheriff's office advises store employees to be "diligent" when accepting larger bills, especially when they are used for small purchases.

The sheriff's office also pointed out that commonly used marking pens are not always 100 percent effective.
