GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Our Adopt A Pet segment this week is all about ArtPrize!
Megan from the Humane Society of West Michigan & Kathie Van Hekken, an ArtPrize artist, came by the studio with Lady Bird.
Lady Bird is a 7-year-old Beagle mix. She does well with other dogs, and cats. She's a sweet, easy going girl, who loves to play, meet people and eat treats!
She is a part of the HSWM's Silver Paws program, so her adoption fee is waived.
Kathie is doing her ArtPrize entry on animals at HSWM.
"The Rescue Project" - Humane Society of West Michigan adopts out over 4,000 animals annually and is ENTIRELY donor-funded. With our shared love of animals, the idea of shining a light on the organization's important work was born, and we are proud to present The Rescue Project! The Rescue Project is a colored pencil collage of animals who have been helped, or are still awaiting, their "forever home." Our hope is that as you gaze into the eyes of these beautiful animals, you will be moved to adopt one for your own, give it a home, and allow it to enrich your life. Or, if so moved, that you would consider making a donation to such a worthy organization. As a gift to thank all those who adopt one of the animals portrayed here, the portrait of that animal will gratefully be given to the rescuer.
Other things happening at HSWM in the coming weeks:
Disaster Preparedness Month: HSWM will be presenting at the Delta Plex "Operation Safe & Secure" event. We will be presenting on pet first aid, emergency kit for pets, safe transport, and more. We will also have giveaways! The event is free and is and runs from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 18.
Bark in the Dark: Registration is now open for the 6th annual Bark in the Dark! This will be held on Oct. 6 from 5 to 10 p.m.
All proceeds from this family & dog friendly 5K and 1-mile fun run/walk benefit animals in need at HSWM. Participants have the opportunity to raise additional donations to support these animals.
The event features family fun activities including: balloon animals, face painting, a pup-a-razzi photo booth, and the Independent Bank dog costume contest before the run/walk, and is followed by music, snacks, and a beer tent featuring local beer, wine, & hard cider after the race!
Foster Families Needed: HSWM will be taking animals in from Greenville, SC due to Hurricane Florence. Because of this, the humane society is in need of fostering, or foster help more than ever!
- Need for Foster Families
- Donations items such as dog crates (any size but we have a larger need for medium to large crates), medium to large collars, & dog beds.
- Financial donations
- Foster Buddy System - if you cannot foster you can help others foster. Reach out to family, friends, and neighbors - maybe they can foster or create a "team" where everyone works together to make fostering possible (one person takes the dog for a walk, the other gives it a place to live, etc.).
