Battle Creek police: Recent cases of possible attempted abductions are not related

According to the department, the description she gave was similar to the attempted abduction that happened two days ago on Minges Circle.

UPDATE, July 20: Battle Creek police say that after further investigation, they do not believe that the incident at Riverside Park was an attempted abduction. They also said that situation and a previous reported incident of an attempted abduction are not related.

The woman at Riverside Park said that she did not feel the man she interacted with was trying to pull her into the woods. She did not think it was an attempted abduction. But police are still investigating it as a possible assault.

As for the incident where a 15-year-old was nearly abducted, police are still looking for the suspect.


CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. - A woman said a man tried to grab her at 7:15 am Thursday at Riverside Park.

The woman told police she was walking the path along Riverside School when the incident occurred.

Police said, the man fled into the woods when she screamed and another walker came to help her.

According to the department, the description the victim gave was similar to the attempted abduction that happened two days ago on Minges Circle, of a white man with a short, blonde, curly beard.

"We realize there was information being shared on social media, but until we could contact the woman and confirm what happened, we didn't want to put wrong information out," said Sgt. Todd Elliott in a press release.

The police department said they working both cases, and anyone that may have information should call 269-781-0911 or Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
