Fire fighters were able to keep a fire at Copper Beech Townhomes in one unit.

ALLENDALE, Mich. — One person suffered minor injuries during a fire at Copper Beech Townhomes in Allendale Thursday evening.

Firefighters were called to the townhomes on 48th Street near Grand Valley State University at 6:22 pm. When they arrived smoke and flames were seen coming from the apartment.

Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to any other units. Fire investigators say it appears the fire started when the tenant was using the torch to light candles. Then thinking the torch was out, put it on the bed starting the fire.

The tenant suffered minor injuries. The investigation into the fire remains open by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office and Allendale Fire / Rescue.
