GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It's Vinyl Record Day and the day is meant to celebrate the invention of the record player by Thomas Edison. On August 12, 1877 was the day Thomas Edison's completion of the model for the first phonograph, a device that recorded sound onto tinfoil cylinders.
To celebrate the occasion, visit Dodds Record Shop located on 808 Bridge Street NW. It's by Charles Smith since 2012 and has been around since 1951, making the record shop the oldest existing record shop in Michigan.
Family and friends are encouraged to spend time on August 12 reliving and sharing memories of vinyl records, music, and more.
Local vinyl shops will be celebrating Vinyl Record Day on Saturday, August 17 instead of August 12.
