GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A youth football team in Grand Rapids is getting ready for their postseason. The Grand Rapids Cougars are a team made up of 11-year-olds that are currently ranked number three in the nation.

But, despite those accomplishments, their coaches say they're most proud of how some of the boys have overcome a tough home life.

"A lot of kids that we do have are inner city based and they come from low-income families. There is no hiding that fact," says Coach Kevin Scott.

Some of them don't have fathers at home, so in addition to running practice, the coaches also pick up and drop off many of the boys at their home.

"We pick a lot of kids up and we take a lot of the financial piece of this," says Coach Kevin Scott.

But, all the hard work is paying off in many ways.

"I wouldn't give those kids up for the world, I love them like they are my own sons," says Coach Ed Gordon.

If you'd like to support the Grand Rapids Cougars you can attend their playoff game next weekend. It's scheduled to take place Sunday, Oct. 21 at Houseman Field.
